Derrick Lockwood recently announced his intentions to step down as the Head of School at the end of June 2017. Please read his letter to parents and grandparents below:

Dear New City Parents,
After several months of discernment and prayer, my wife and I have decided to pursue full time ministry in the state of Georgia and internationally. My effective month of resignation from my role as Head of School at New City Christian School will be June, 2017 at the end of this school year.

Derrick B. Lockwood was hired as Head of School for New City in July 2015. Derrick has over 30 years of experience in education and educational leadership. He has served as the principal and most recently the Dean of Atlanta Youth Academy (AYA), a highly regarded preK-8th grade school in Atlanta, Georgia. Derrick is a committed Christian, husband, and father. He is married to Crystal E. Lockwood.
Derrick has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and has experience in both public and private school settings prior to leading at AYA. He has been a teacher at the high school and middle school levels, primarily in the area of history but he has also taught classes on race relations and Biblical studies. He was honored as Teacher of the Year in Dekalb County in 1991. He was a prestigious Fisher Fellow through the nationally known KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program).
In addition to his experience in education, Derrick is also an ordained minister of the gospel. Derrick’s enthusiasm for Christ, for education, and for student leadership are quickly evident to all.
