Curriculum & Results

Our Results

New City administers the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), a nationally standardized test of achievement, in 2nd through 5th grades.  These tests generally provide more information than the state-administered EOGs (End of Grade) which are not nationally standardized. For specific information on test results, please contact Portia White, Testing Coordinator, at pwhite@newcitychristian.org.

A Brief Description of our Curriculum

Our goal is to make sure that all our students have the best possible chance at developing strong academic foundations for future learning.

The Core Knowledge Sequence is our road map for much of the material that we seek to teach: geography, science, history, art history, music, etc.  The great educator E.D. Hirsch, who led the development of the Core Knowledge Sequence has strongly argued that schools should teach a very specific curriculum that allows children to understand the things that writers and speakers take for granted.  You can learn about it here, including seeing the exact sequence and material for each grade.

The Core Knowledge Foundation has piloted a new language arts program that incorporates many of the history, science and geography areas covered in the Core Knowledge Sequence. You can watch a video about this curriculum below:
