Admissions Policy

 Mr. Fuller and Students

The most important requirement for admission to New City Christian School is a caring adult—parent, extended family member, or guardian—willing to make a commitment to his or her student’s success by faithfully partnering with the school.  As a school community we use Covenants or promises as the basis for our relationships.  Our Board, our faculty and staff, our parents, and our students each have a Covenant which outlines responsibilities and also demonstrates what we can expect from others.  You can view our covenants here to understand the level of commitment we require.  We invite all interested families to visit New City as the next step for admission.   Our school was founded to address the particular needs of African-American children from lower-wealth households.  However, we welcome students from all races, backgrounds, and ethnicities and believe that our curriculum and methods will well equip all of our students.  Our desire is to offer a truly affordable private education to any family willing to faithfully uphold the mission of New City.  Our tuition is based on a sliding scale and we also provide generous scholarships for our students.

To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must turn five by August 1 of the year that they would enter kindergarten.

Acceptance of any child at New City Christian School of Asheville, North Carolina, is the decision of the New City Christian School Board and faculty, based on compatibility of school, parents, and child. Admission and re-enrollment in the school is a privilege and not a right. We want your child to be enrolled in the school that is best able to educate him or her.

Though parents/guardians are not required to affirm our Statement of Faith, the parents/guardians at New City Christian School must have a willingness to have their child exposed to the clear teaching of the school’s Statement of Faith within the school curriculum.

New City Christian School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

New City Christian School is a small private school with limited resources compared to the public schools and other larger private schools.  Public schools receive additional funding for students with special needs and hire specialized staff to serve their unique needs.  New City does admit many students with special needs when we believe that we can truly serve and educate them.  We are thankful to have speech therapy provided by the Buncombe County school system.  If your child has special needs, we look forward to discussing the ability of our staff to adequately address and meet your child's needs in a typical classroom setting.  You can also visit to investigate various schools' success with students with special needs.
